Head of Institutional Investor Relations

Westpac Group is one of Australia’s largest banks comprising some of the country’s most recognised financial services brands, including Westpac, St.George, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA and RAMS. The Group also has a significant presence in New Zealand.

Over recent years, the banking sector has undergone major change. In addition to changes in the operating environment, the sector has experienced a number of major issues including a Royal Commission, regulatory investigations, and fines. In response to these developments Westpac is also in the midst of significant change to fix its own issues, simplify its operations and restore performance. Part of that change is the Group’s new purpose of “Helping Australians and New Zealanders succeed” recognising that we not only provide banking services but that we play a significant role in the communities in which we operate. How will I help?

Reporting to the Head of Investor Relations you will deal directly with Institutional investors both in Australia and globally, along with the broking analysts that research banks. In addition to building strong relationships and clearly understanding their needs you will play a key role in developing and shaping the Group’s communications to this audience. Understanding institutional market, you will also a key advocate for institutional shareholder within the company.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Helping to maintain and build strong relationships with institutional investors and research brokers
  • Driving an understanding of the Group’s performance and strategic positioning externally
  • Working closely with the CEO, CFO and the Executive team on presenting their message to the market
  • Supporting the strategy and production of key market communication materials, including presentations, sections of financial reporting, the investor discussion pack and other ASX releases
  • Reporting on and analysing market expectations and broker forecasts
  • Providing input into a variety of company projects and initiatives to ensure the views of shareholders are considered in decision-making
  • Facilitating continuous improvement through re-engineering initiatives and problem resolution
  • Working constructively across the organisation, including with the finance, treasury, legal, risk and communications teams.

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years in a banking, markets or like role
  • Degree qualified in accounting, finance or economics
  • Previous experience in banking with a strong understanding how banks operate highly preferred
  • Ability to build strong relationships within investors/brokers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; and
  • Strong analytical ability, ability to deal with ambiguity and to influence key stakeholders.

This role will involve a travel component both interstate and internationally. The role also involves some late evenings and weekend work depending on timelines.
