What we’re looking for?

Kmart are excited to be looking to appoint a Technical Design Manager. This brand new role will be responsible for leading the day to day operational and performance of the apparel Technical Fit program across all of apparel. You will be the SME when it comes to providing a high level of expertise and technical advice around fit standards and will have significant input into the development, implementation and administration of supplier standards. This role will see you leading a team whilst designing new innovative ways of working and embedding these into the team. You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Partnering with the design and merch teams to develop products aligned to production standards, product aesthetics and brand DNA;
  • Establish and deliver fit standards across apparel to ensure consistency across apparel;
  • Identify and resolve issues that arise around fit, production and/or costing;
  • Lead the technical strategy for Kmart apparel.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all stakeholders.

About You

To meet the challenges of this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience;

  • High degree of technical acuity in pattern making, sizing and grading and ability to readily identify and rectify issues associated with same;
  • Experience working with large scale apparel manufacturers, coupled with experience in technical production methodologies in relation to pattern development;
  • Extensive experience using PLM systems, ILLUSTRATOR and 3D design tools for creating tech packs, approving samples and communicating with suppliers; and
  • Demonstrated experience applying and implementing technical standards and methodologies across a wide portfolio of apparel products.
