The Faculty of Medicine and the Metro North Hospital and Health Service seek vibrant and exceptional people to consider the opportunity of becoming a Staff Specialist with a conjoint appointment as Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

The Faculty of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education and medical research in Queensland, with the country's largest medical program. The four year graduate entry medical program offers an integrated, case-based curriculum including early clinical experiences. The School is a diverse enterprise operating over multiple sites, with Queensland Health and private health service providers as major partners. Geographically, the School extends throughout Queensland with major sites in Brisbane, the outer metropolitan areas, and a number of rural and remote area facilities throughout the rest of the state. The UQ medical degree is also delivered overseas in Brunei and the United States of America, emphasising the global nature of the School.

Metro North HHS is unique in its composition in that two of its five hospitals are tertiary facilities that provide state-wide super specialty services such as Heart and Lung Transplantation, Burns, and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). MNHHS has a range of subacute, post-acute, community based health services to support patient discharge and hospital avoidance as well as a number of residential facilities, Oral Health Services and a fully integrated Mental Health Service including both community and hospital based care.

The Women's and Newborn Services is the provider of women's, maternity and neonatal care in the context of one of the state's largest Obstetrics and Gynaecology units. Services include gynaecology, obstetrics, gynaecology oncology, maternal fetal medicine, and neonatal intensive care.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to be a pivotal link between clinical service and academic teaching of The University of Queensland’s medical students, and to establish an independent research program and to facilitate growth, innovation and enterprise within the academic unit. The successful appointee will split their activities equally between clinical duties and research and education duties.

This is a fulltime conjoint position in Gastroenterology in the Department of Internal Medicine, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, jointly working in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking qualified and experienced candidates with high levels of expertise in the assessment and management of patients with IBD and who will effectively work as a senior physician lead within a multidisciplinary team. The key skills and experience also include:

  • Passed the FRACP exam or equivalent with at least 2 years of advanced gastroenterology training.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and, where applicable, registration or membershipwith the Medical Board of Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be providedto the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • A research higher degree (PhD or equivalent) together with a dedicated IBD fellowship either within Australiaor overseas.
  • An established track record of independent clinical and/or basic science research in Gastroenterologyand/or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability in the delivery of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the two organisations and with colleagues.

Remuneration

This is a full time appointment at Academic Level D or E depending on the candidate's level of expertise.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
