Our client a regulatory body that assesses, evaluates, and monitors medical goods to ensure quality, safety and performance is seeking an APS5 Policy Officer to work in the Medicinal Cannabis section with primary responsibility for reform projects relating to Medicinal Cannabis.
 
The Medicinal Cannabis Section (MCS) is responsible for the regulation of the cultivation and production of cannabis for medicinal purposes or research related to medicinal cannabis. This includes the assessment of application for cannabis licenses or permits and making decisions to grant such licenses. As the industry develops MCS will develop an inspectorate that will undertake monitoring and compliance activities to ensure license holders comply with the associated legislation.
 
On a day-to-day basis the successful candidate will:

  • Assist in development of policy documents and/or instructional material.
  • Assist in management of relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Produce written reports to support the Director and other delegates in decision making.
  • Assess applications for cannabis licenses and permits.
  • Behave in a professional and courteous manner whilst on Departmental premises.
  • Participate in and contribute to performance discussions as required or directed by the Contract Manager.

For this vacancy, our ideal candidate will:

  • Understand, or have experience in, project management techniques.
  • Have good people skills.
  • Be comfortable with collating information from others, and able to shape information from different sources into coherent text.
  • Have demonstrated critical thinking ability.
  • Be self-motivated and a fast learner.

In addition, as this position is with a federal government department you will need to be an Australian citizen with a Baseline security clearance or higher. This role is paying $50 / hour + 9.5% superannuation and will be offered notionally until 30th June 21, with a view to extend by an additional 12-months. The role will be based on site for full time hours from Woden, Canberra. Remote working options are not available for these roles.
