The Opportunity

On behalf of our Government client, we are looking for an Assistant Director Controls Assurance to join the internal audit branch. This team provides a systematic and disciplined methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of the Agency’s control framework.

This is a 12-month position, paying $520 per day and can be based in Melbourne or Geelong.

The Role

The EL1 Assistant Director Controls Assurance is an important leadership role within the team and will be responsible for actively managing key relationships, leadership, resource management, performance management and control planning.

Duties include;

  • Leading assessment activities to facilitate effective evaluation and improvement of the control framework and internal control environment
  • Delivering assurance assessments (testing) that meet organisational objectives
  • Overseeing elements of the Controls Assurance work program to ensure correct methodology is applied and align with the risk management framework and governance mode
  • Producing high standard reporting to monitor and communicate agreed outcomes and achievements
  • Mentoring and coaching Controls Assurance Officer/s to ensure professional and consistent approach to assessments, undertaking quality assurance of team's output to ensure objectives are met
  • Proactively engaging with stakeholders to support the management of recommended and agreed improvement strategies
  • Supporting the development of the Controls Assurance rolling work program, providing insights into areas of risk exposure for review and inclusion

About you

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • In-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislation, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision making processes and guidelines and regulations
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and undertaking risk management activities
  • Leadership experience demonstrating performance management, conflict resolution and career development through coaching others
  • Ability to work with a level of independence
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to make decision based on professional judgement, evaluating risks in the context of a complex and ever-changing environment
  • Stakeholder management including managing stakeholders through change
