The Australian Medical Association is the most influential membership organisation representing Australia’s registered medical practitioners and doctors in training. The AMA promotes and protects the professional interests of doctors, and the healthcare needs of patients and communities. We develop health policy and advocate to increase and maintain provision of world-class medical care to all Australians.

Following a restructure, we have created this new role to lead external communication and advocacy campaign strategy. You will provide high-level advice to our President, Vice-President and Secretary General, and will oversee the work of a small, high-performing communication team. You will work closely with State and Territory AMA branches in coordinating media and communication activities.

This role will call for a background in both strategic and tactical external communication management, and a deep understanding of federal politics. You will need advanced interpersonal communication skills and the ability to quickly gain the trust of senior stakeholders. You will also need experience in mentoring and inspiring less seasoned communication team members. This role will provide attractive remuneration and the satisfaction arising from making a real difference.
