Communications Advisor job for local council. Melbourne's CBD. Mix of WFH and CBD. 15-Mar to 17-Sep, $45-55/hr

Your new company
This local council client is based in Melbourne CBD. They are actively seeking a Communications Advisor, to commence on March 15th and work through to September 17th for paternal leave cover.

Your new role
The expectation is that this role will be work from home until advised otherwise by the government, at which point you may be required to make a staggered return to the office.

Reporting to the Senior Communications Adviser, your daily responsibilities will be diverse and broad-ranging and will include;

  • Plan and deliver high quality integrated communications for small and medium Council programs and core services.
  • Provide well researched and accurate strategic communications advice to the organisation based on customer and stakeholder needs.
  • Provide support for major initiatives and key communication strategies through implementation and ongoing delivery.
  • Create accurate, informative and engaging content, to be used across a range of council channels and to support media messaging
  • In association with the Communications Manager and other members of the branch, ensure a consistent approach to the prioritisation and delivery of Council communications that is aligned to branch processes, practices and policies.
  • Develop positive internal and external stakeholder relationships to help foster a clear understanding of the Public Affairs and Media branch purpose.
  • Play an active role in issues management by identifying potential risks to council reputation. Assist in the development of reactive content including key messaging, and FAQs to support the response to unplanned, reactive activities and issues.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful for these roles you will have;

  • Sound experience in a similar role developing and delivering proactive and reactive integrated communication plans and assets, preferably in a complex environment involving stakeholder management.
  • Project planning and project management skills across the range of communications disciplines, including community and stakeholder relations, media, social media and corporate reputation management.
  • Good risk radar with the ability to recognise potential issues and flag them in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication, including the ability to prepare a variety of communication tools across traditional and social media channels.
  • Proven ability to function effectively in a complex and demanding environment, and to effectively manage high workloads, tight timelines, and diverse relationships.

Furthermore, the selected candidate must be willing to undertake a National Police Check. Please note, all applicants must be currently residing in Victoria and have full working rights to be considered for this job.

What you'll get in return
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a highly reputable local council. The positions offer an hourly rate of between $45 and $55 plus superannuation, depending on experience, and will be full-time, 38 hours per week.
