This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to advise the Council's Local Review Body and associated Council officers on applications for review of delegated planning decisions.
As a Planning Adviser to the Council’s Local Review Body (LRB) you will be required to provide guidance to the members of the LRB in their determination of planning applications passed to them. You will have experience of the Scottish planning system, SPP and the development management process, as well as being confident in the assessment of planning applications, understanding the relevant processes and identifying material considerations and determining issues. The post is a part of the Legal & Governance Service’s Legal team but also works closely with Committee Services. As a supply based post, the hours will vary. It is subject to the standard disclosure check.

The Individual

You will be a highly skilled individual who can demonstrate initiative and take responsibility for decisions to achieve required results.
You must be able to demonstrate recent relevant experience of the Scottish planning systems, SPP and the development management process.
You will be required to manage your own workload, have the ability to assess the competency of review applications, undertake site visits.
You will required the necessary skills to communicate effectively with members of LRB, correspond with applicants, their professional advisers and assist in the drafting of decision notices.
Excellent planning and organising skills are required as you will be expected to work on your own initiative to achieve the relevant deadlines.
You must be able to demonstrate your working knowledge and understanding of all statutory and other legal requirements in respect of it LRB duties in terms of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland Act) 1997. You may be required to assist in training Councillors and identify opportunities to improve knowledge, understanding and decision-making.
You will have a degree in Town Planning or similar or be able to demonstrate the relevant skills, experience and behaviours required for the role.
Experience of development management in a planning authority and working at senior management level in Local Government would be an advantage.
A driving licence will be required as you will be required to undertake site visits.
