The EL1 Assistant Director position is working within the Internal Audit Branch, and requires a strong candidate with leadership qualities, to assist a Federal Government organisation. This role manages the control, planning, resource management, decision making and performance management of the Branch, whilst supporting the overall strategic and operational objectives of the agency.

Key responsibilties: 

  • Leading assessment activities to facilitate effective evaluation and improvement of the Agency’s control framework and internal control environment.
  • Delivering assurance assessments (testing) that meet organisational objectives.
  • Overseeing elements of the Controls Assurance work program to ensure correct methodology is applied and align with the risk management framework and governance model.
  • Producing high standard reporting to monitor and communicate agreed outcomes and achievements.
  • Mentoring and coaching Controls Assurance Officer/s to ensure professional and consistent approach to assessments, undertaking quality assurance of team's output to ensure objectives are met.
  • Proactively engaging with stakeholders to support the management of recommended and agreed improvement strategies.
  • Supporting the development of the Controls Assurance rolling work program, providing insights into areas of risk exposure for review and inclusion.

To be successful for this role, you must:

  • Ensure in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations.
  • Engage with risk, including the conduct of risk assessment and risk management activities for area of responsibility.
  • Ensure quality outputs including that employees maintain a high level of specialist, professional and/or technical expertise.
  • Build capability in a team environment through coaching others, providing performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development.
  • Promote the agency’s business objectives through key strategic relationships with range of stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholders through change, resolving conflict and managing sensitivities.
