The Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Consultant Intensivist to join a dedicated team.

The Intensive and Critical Care Unit is a CICM Level II Unit. It is a 14bed combined unit of 6 Intensive Care beds, 4 Coronary Care/High Dependency beds and 4 Surgical High Dependency beds. The bed numbers are flexibly managed between the Intensive and Coronary Care areas with the Coronary Care beds managed by physicians.

The primary role of the Intensivist is the clinical management of patients in Intensive and Critical Care Department. In addition, they are required to undertake the review of all medically unstable patients in Emergency Department and in the wards.

The Intensive and Critical Care Unit has full monitoring abilities with facilities for provision of all the services of intensive care including invasive cardiovascular monitoring, mechanical ventilation up to a total of 7 patients at any one time, and haemofiltration.

Patients requiring major neurological or cardiac interventions or those suffering severe burns are transferred to one of the major metropolitan hospitals in Melbourne for on-going care. This is supported by road, fixed wing and helicopter transport.

The Intensive and Critical Care Unit is staffed by the Clinical Lead and a team of full time and part-time Intensivists providing 24/7 cover. This is further supported by junior grade medical staff

The successful applicant will be required to:
· Provide medical clinical leadership within the Critical Care Unit working in collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager (or designated Nurse in charge of the shift) to ensure safe, appropriate and person centred health care
· Promote and encourage compliance with appropriate professional college for maintenance of professional standards programs
· Provide clinical leadership and supervision/teaching for medical students, junior medical staff as well as other clinical staff. This will include specific and appropriate teaching and supervision for the various accredited training positions for Critical Care Services at LRH.
· Work collaboratively with other relevant services, especially all CCU staff, Operating Theatre staff, Anaesthetists, Paediatricians, Allied Health and Nursing staff.
· Participate actively in the monthly CCU meetings that report through the LRH governance structure. Be involved with clinical audit and other Quality Assurance activities.

The Hospital has several outstanding facilities following a recent expansion, with nearly 300 beds.

A specialist referral and trauma centre, a purpose-built teaching Hospital catering for a population of more than 250,00. As a teaching hospital it is affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and Federation University and provide placements and clinical experience for students.

To be successful in this position you will need to have:
· Fellowship with the CICM
· Demonstrated clinical ability commensurate with that expected of a Specialist Intensivist
· Leadership and management experience, including the development and management of staff
· Significant experience working at a senior level in a major hospital
· Demonstrable knowledge of the Victorian Public Hospital system
· Budgetary knowledge and understanding of funding implications
· Demonstrated ability to introduce and manage change
· Demonstrable interpersonal and negotiation skills at a high level
· Adherence to safe practice standards and policies
· High level decision-making ability
