The Legislative Services Advisor will assist the Legislation, Policy and Information Services (LPIS) Division in formulating effective legislative and statutory solutions. The role will work closely with Senior Legislative Services Advisors and LPIS Management to lead or assist in the provision of authoritative advice to WorkSafe.

Key Accountabilities

You assist in reviewing, analysing, advising on and development of policy and strategy in a range of contexts including strategic, economic, legislative, regulatory and operational. More specifically the Legislative Services Advisor will:

  • Lead or provide support in the development of WorkSafe Victoria's responses to key priority and critical issues as they emerge
  • Undertake critical research and analysis on relevant academic literature, case law, industry trends and research in other jurisdictions both overseas, nationally and Australian jurisdictions on best practice approaches for identifying and addressing emerging policy and regulatory issues, including developing options and recommendations to resolve issues
  • Lead or assist in the development of and/or undertake the quality assurance review of statutory and non-statutory guidance material

About you

You have demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills to build and manage internal and external networks and relationships. More specifically you have:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research and think laterally and analytically.
  • Experience in developing strategic and/or legal policy, gained in a Government environment in occupational health and safety, workers' compensation or other regulatory environments.
  • Experience in providing high quality and rigorous policy advice on a range of complex issues within limited time constraints.


  • A relevant tertiary qualification in law or public policy is highly desirable
