JOB DESCRIPTION

Senior Policy Officer

The Senior Policy Officer has a strong interest in information privacy, information management, government transparency and accountability, policy, technology, and law. The Policy team has a number of functions, including developing resources and guidance for regulated organisations, consulting with organisations on government initiatives and providing advice, reviewing draft legislation and program proposals, preparing submissions to consultations and inquiries, and assisting with stakeholder engagement activities. The Senior Policy Officer works across each of the team's functions and gains experience in a variety of areas.

The Senior Policy Officer works directly with the Assistant Commissioner – Policy and other members of the team to promote an understanding of the Information Privacy Principles under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (PDP Act) and shape the Victorian public sector's approach to public access to information under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) (FOI Act). The position will also be required to work with other teams across OVIC from time to time.

This position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, research experience, strong analytical skills, and legal analysis skills. A relevant tertiary qualification is required, ideally in technology, policy or law.

To be successful in this role applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to work well as part of a team and manage their time effectively.

The role's key accountabilities will vary from time to time dependent on the team's workload and the needs of the Victorian public sector.
