The West Gate Tunnel Project is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:

  • Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
  • Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
  • Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
  • Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
  • Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

Your new position:

As an Occupations Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing effective co-ordination of all Rail Occupations and associated works in relation to the West Gate Tunnel Project .

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Co-ordinate with Network Safety and Operations to ensure that all Occupations and their subsequent limits are correctly represented and submitted within MTM’s Access and Resource Management System (ARMS)
  • Ensure timely booking, safe and efficient utilisation of all track occupations by working closely with all relevant stakeholders and striving for best for business optimisation of the network.
  • Support the preparation and development of Draft Protection Plans for endorsement by Network Safety
  • Support the Works Readiness process and ensure that ‘T minus’ Stage Gates are achieved for all Occupations
  • Support and contribute to the preparation and publishing of key Occupation documentation such as Works Guides
  • Support the Rail Disruption Managers to secure the required MTM critical Resources required within each Occupation
  • Attend Planning Meetings associated with both disruptive and non-disruptive Occupations
  • Liaise with other Rail Transport Operators, where Works are proposed at or across jurisdictional boundaries
  • Work on site, provide status updates and reporting during Occupation periods

About you:

Ideally you will possess demonstrated knowledge of the rail network, where you have gained operational and track protection experience and understand the requirements working around rail electrical assets.

To be successful you will need to possess the following: 

  • Strong safety focus and a willingness to promote a safe working culture.
  • Very good understanding of MTM T-Minus process and requirements.
  • Strong understanding of Rail Occupation requirements, inclusive of Occupation boundaries, Overhead power isolations, workgroup interfaces, safe working requirements and works programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve both technical and general issues with all stakeholders.
  • Level 1 Train Track Awareness as a minimum
  • Construction Industry Card
