The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:

  • Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
  • Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
  • Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
  • Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
  • Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

The position:

You will be accountable for managing the planning and quality production of several concrete precast elements, overseeing a team of engineers to ensure the timely and safe delivery.

Your New Position

  • Overarching responsibility for engineering activities to manufacture precast elements including managing engineers and subcontractors to ensure that elements are planned and implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
  • Manage compliance of the precast products to drawings, and procurement of materials for manufacture
  • Assign work and lead reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards of supplier, subcontractor quotations/purchase orders as well as subcontractor arrangements
  • Drive mid and short-term planning and productivity monitoring of works and scheduling of resources
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety and environmental management. Lead continual improvement of a high performing safety culture within the delivery team
  • Drive program to ensure accurate quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check work drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary Preparation and delivery of cost forecasting and reporting
  • Ensuring all required Safety, Environmental and other Regulatory obligations are fulfilled

About You

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years post graduate engineering experience
  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams
  • Demonstrated practical experience in concrete precast manufacture, experience with pre-stress preferable
  • A thorough understanding of precast segments you can apply to the production of Noisewalls, Barriers, Crossheads, Capitals and Columns, Smoke Ducts, Road Decks and Bridge Planks
  • Preferably pre-stress experience in precast.
  • Proven experience in successfully leading large work packages, $50M+ projects with multidiscipline scope
  • Ability to effectively manage budgets, systems and stakeholders to deliver to plan
  • Excellent attitude and awareness of Safety
  • Availability to base yourself in Regional Northern Victoria
