About the Role

We are currently seeking applications for the Full-time role (37.5 hours per week) of Family Counsellor and Educator located at our Ipswich venue.

The purpose of this role is to provide holistic and flexible support services (counselling, education and case management services) to children, young people and their families to improve relationships, improve children’s wellbeing, strengthen family and community functioning and reduce the costs of family breakdown. This position works with families who are engaged either through the Parenting Orders Program or Family and Relationship Services.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop and implement case management plans for clients, whilst maintaining child focused practice
  • Apply knowledge of life span and development theory and issues relevant to life transitions to the individual, couple and/or families (e.g., issues surrounding relationship formation and marriage, separating or remarrying, transition to parenthood, parenting different age children, retirement)
  • In consultation with the Program Manager, Team Leader, clinical supervisors and in collaboration with other co-facilitators, design and document group and distance education programs in relation to parental and child education.
  • Deliver to groups and individuals, including separated parents or other person’s impacted by separation (such as grandparents and step parents), education that providing learnings in:
    • Theoretical models and frameworks of child development;
    • Issues specific to complex separation, divorce and re-partnering, particularly conflict impacting on children in separation; and
    • Enhancing capacity to ensure child focused parenting.

The position holder will be required to work an evening shift (12pm to 8pm) either Tuesday or Wednesday, with some flexibility needed in order to meet business requirements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will have

  • demonstrated ability to work within a child focused practice framework coupled with
  • highly developed experience in managing caseloads, particularly with involuntary clients. 
  • In addition, you will have a relevant Undergraduate qualification in Behavioural Science, Psychology, Counselling or Social Work.

The salary being offered is circa $71,760 to $85,995 per annum, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation and generous salary packaging options where eligible which will significantly increase the value of take-home pay.
