Laboratory Technician

Primary Purpose

Opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician to become part of the Product Testing team providing analytical support to the group as well as supporting manufacturing operations. Will be on a casual basis, 3-5 days per week for the next three months or more.

Knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, laboratory materials and equipment for specific testing or a diverse range of research programs to support the evolution of new products. A willingness to learn and become competent in a range of analytical techniques is essential. Diploma of Laboratory Technology level as a minimum.

Responsibilities

  • Safety conscious and able to comply with all site EH&S standards, including the reporting of any incidents, hazards, near misses or "at-risk" behaviours in a timely fashion.
  • Analysis and interpretation of test results and compiling technical reports including critical analysis of results to drive improvement initiatives.
  • Calibration and operation of laboratory equipment and instruments such as X-Ray Diffractometer, X- Ray Fluorescence, Leco carbon analyzers, FTIR, Thermogravimetric instruments, particle size analyzers, analyzer, microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, grinding mills and other laboratory equipment
  • Following standard laboratory methods, and developing new methods and procedures, with care and attention to detail, in order to:
  • Test materials or related products, for such qualities as chemical and phase composition, particle size, density, moisture etc.
  • Test raw materials to finished products and a diverse range of formulations to verify conformity to specifications. Results driven, self-disciplined, self-directing, and hold high standard in deliverables

Candidate Profile and Qualifications Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with people at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects while meeting deadlines and demanding quality execution.
  • Management software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Gantt charts, Internet).
  • Technical skills include laboratory testing, physical testing, chemical testing, sampling and sample preparation, control process documentation, strong attention to detail and an understanding of regulatory compliance to certified quality standards.

Education/Experience:

  • Diploma of Laboratory Technology level as a minimum. Associate Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science/applied science, Industrial Chemistry, geology or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in a testing laboratory.
