Properties, Facilities & Development (PF&D) plays an important role in ensuring Curtin’s physical presence enables ongoing transformation and supports the University’s vision to be a recognised global leader in research, education and engagement. The department is responsible for the planning, delivery, maintenance and operation of great places where people come first.
As a part of Properties, Facilities & Development the Capital Projects team is responsible for the implementation of the Capital Program and delivers all capital works projects including major and minor building and infrastructure works. The team coordinates building and infrastructure activities to deliver a sustainable and integrated built environment that meets the long-term aspirations of the University

About the role

We are seeking a Workplace Health and Safety (permit-to-work) Coordinator to join an industry leading, agile and collaborative Capital Projects team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced WHS Coordinator to take ownership of the permit-to-work system and collaborate with key stakeholders to review and implement system improvements.

In this role you will

Work with a diverse range of internal stakeholders, external consultants and contractors to provide technical support and coaching
Monitor, assess and report on contractor health and safety compliance requirements such as, but not limited to, inductions, licencing, permits to work etc.
Conduct audits and report findings at regular intervals to ensure compliance
Capture, maintain, and administer records and data required for reporting
Participate and maintain reporting for the weekly campus impacts meeting.
Assist in responding to health and safety incidents, including investigation and providing guidance on the development and implementation of corrective actions.
Assist and provide guidance on procedure reviews to ensure effective and efficient risk management.

We are looking for someone with:
Relevant formal qualifications and experience in workplace health and safety, and working knowledge of permit-to-work systems or an equivalent mix of experience and training.
Formal tertiary qualifications in health and safety (desired)
Proven experience in applying risk management, health and safety, and compliance practice and procedures in a facilities maintenance and construction environment.
High level written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present ideas, concepts and points of view in a clear, precise and logical manner (including experience in report writing)Ability to establish strong working relationships with a wide variety of people.
Demonstrated experience in applying computing skills (including database applications and the Microsoft Office suite of applications) within a property/construction or facilities maintenance work environment.
Strong experience in providing a high quality of service within a customer-oriented work environment together with proven resilience and the ability to respond effectively and positively to pressure.
An agile mindset with the ability to accept changes in priority and adapt quickly.
A level of fitness commensurate with the position
Experience in the tertiary education, construction or facilities management sector (desired)
