The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of both phases of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba as well as QE2 and Redlands Hospitals; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside as well as Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals, Queensland Childrens Hospitals, South Brisbane; Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich; Greenslopes Private Hospital, Greenslopes; the Primary Care Clinical Unit, Herston and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders.

About This Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Primary Care Clinical Unit, School of Clinical Medicine, the primary purpose of this position is to develop and provide academic leadership in the general practice course delivered through the Primary Care Clinical Unit. The appointee will focus their efforts on leveraging their established record of achievement in clinical teaching and may be expected to contribute to the supervision of students in advanced or speciality training programs.

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To provide high quality education in general practice for medical students, including preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials, undertaking assessment and marking, and providing coordination for courses in the Primary Care Clinical Unit.
  • Develop clinical and related research and publish in peer-reviewed clinical research studies and/or state/national guidelines for clinical practice
  • Strengthen external links by undertaking leadership roles in the profession (including developing consultancies in specialty areas) and sustaining relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking medically qualified candidates with a Postgraduate professional qualification and/or Higher Degree by Research in the discipline area desirable. The appointee must have an established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research in the discipline area, and expert knowledge in the area of general practice.

In addition, the successful appointee may demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • A record of peer reviewed publications in reputable peer refereed journals and presentations at conferences, in conjunction with evidence of contribution towards successful applications for external research funding,
  • Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and/or professional entry level.
  • Track record of contribution to teaching and/or other engagement in medical programs,
  • Potential to work towards course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area,
  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with demonstrated leadership roles in external activities that foster links within the profession and the relevant specialty, including developing consultancies in speciality areas.

What We Can Offer

This is a part-time, fixed term teaching and research focused position for two years at Academic level C. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $119,548.53 - $137,846.50, plus super of up to 17%.
