Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cadetships
Eastern Health is offering two (2) positions within our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cadetship Program in 2021, supported by the Department of Health and Human Services.
The cadetship program is open to Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander's and who are enrolled in a course of study that will lead to a certified qualification.
About the role
- Work under the supervision of a health pracititioner relevant to your discipline
- 40 shifts across the year
- Hospital setting
- Assist patients with daily living acitivities, provide wellbeing support, help maintain a safe and clean environment, support clinical procedures
Days of cultural significance would also be recognised - you will be paid and given the time to attend if these events fall during your rostered work time. In addition, you will be supported to attend the CATSINaM Conference (Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives). CATSINaM is the sole representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives in Australia, and its primary function is to implement strategies to increase the recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
To be successful in this role you should:
- Identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background
- Studying one of the following- Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery (including double degree) or Bachelor or Master of an Allied Health Profession
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Developing communication and organisational skills
