The CCQ assists the State Coroner’s statutory function to oversee and coordinate the Queensland coronial system by providing registry, administrative and legal support to seven full time Coroners and two Coronial Registrars. Administration Officers are part of a Coronial Services Team (Regional) and provide administrative support to the Coronial Services Officer and Inquest and Investigations Officer within the Southern Coroner’s registry to ensure family focused, coronial services are delivered to the bereaved in a timely and accurate manner.

The position is responsible for communicating with, and delivering services to coroners, families, witnesses, court users and stakeholders. Please refer to the position description document below for full details.

Key Responsibilities

• Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of the relevant policies and processes governed by the Coroners Act 2003.
• Ability to provide administrative support in a busy registry setting, including:

a. receiving reports of death and creating a case file;
b. opening and recording incoming correspondence;
c. preparing standard correspondence, court forms and documents (including autopsy orders and coronial findings);
d. preparing and maintaining files;
e. maintaining office supplies and equipment;
f. organising appointments and meetings; data entry and the use of a case management database; and
g. using a range of office equipment.

• Ability to communicate with sensitivity, tact, discretion and confidentiality, including the ability to communicate about difficult and highly emotive issues.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members and contribute to the accomplishment of team goals.
• Ability to follow instructions, manage own time and meet deadlines.
• Ability to provide keyboard support for drafting documents with technical and medical language, including coronial findings.
• Provide general assistance to the Director and the Coroners, as required.
• Perform any additional duties, as required.
