JOB DESCRIPTION

Provide expert clinical knowledge and clinical care for consumers/persons with a an established or suspected genetic syndrome known to cause cancer and support the general function of unit through role modelling and application of the principles of contemporary evidence based consumer/person focused care, education, leadership and portfolio management. In addition, this role will provide support and direction to the Registered Nurse/Midwife and other non-registered nursing personnel in more complex situations.

About the Role

  • Respond appropriately to, and provide support and direction to manage, sudden alterations in the health status of the consumer/person using advanced nursing/midwifery assessment and intervention skills.

  • Integrate nursing and advanced health care knowledge, skills and ability specific to Gastroenterology nursing by supporting an evidence-based learning environment and participating in learning activities/opportunities for self and others.

  • Provide teaching to both consumers/persons and their families with an established or suspected cancer-causing genetic syndrome to facilitate learning and enable them to move towards independence.

  • Participate in research activities in the field of hereditary cancer, including the application of ethics, data collection and analysis.
