Western Dairy are seeking a Regional Manager to manage a high performing remote team and provide strong, experienced and contemporary leadership to support a high quality team culture. The position will support the Western Dairy Board in the development of the strategy and annual operating plan (AOP), including budgets and governance. The Regional Manager will actively lead the Western Dairy team to add value to the dairy industry through supporting the regional adoption of desired on-farm practices, extending the influence of Dairy Australia through farmer networks and successful partnering across the industry to meet these outcomes. This is a part-time position, however the possibility of full-time is available, should the applicant demonstrate expertise in the areas of HR/ workforce planning and development or within the farm finance and business management sector.

The key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead the team, including coaching and mentoring, to deliver a consistently high standard of services with farmers, service providers and other relevant professionals
  • Create and maintain a strong remote team culture that supports the development and performance of the regional team
  • Support the Board in the development, review and delivery of a national strategic plan
  • Develop and implement an agreed AOP to meet the regional priorities and coordinate resources for the best outcome for farmers
  • Monitor and review the performance of the team against agreed goals and objectives aligned to the AOP
  • Develop strong stakeholder relationships with the Chair, directors, local farmer groups, government agencies and service providers to ensure farming community needs are met
  • Provide executive support to the Western Dairy Chair and Board
  • Proactively build and sustain constructive and collaborative working relationships across the wider Dairy Australia organisation including the teams at Southbank and other dairy regions
  • Prepare and analyse strategic operational internal reporting and identify and enable opportunities for strategic board engagement with key industry stakeholders
  • Manage business risk to ensure all necessary policies and procedures are in place
  • Prepare, monitor, manage and report against the regional budget
  • Identify opportunities for securing external funding where this aligns with regional plans
  • Achieve agreed extension and service outcome and targets according to the regional plan and national strategies
  • Prioritise and deliver an appropriate mix of strategic and targeted extension events and industry services by guiding and supporting the activities of the regional team
  • Report to the Manager Regional Services on planning, performance, team management and professional development
  • Report to the Western Dairy Chair on all matters concerning Western Dairy Board governance and strategy
  • Report to the Western Dairy Board as required including financial reporting and preparation of Board reports

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in agriculture, commerce, natural resource management or other relevant tertiary qualification
  • Extensive agribusiness, extension experience or educational experience working with people
  • Understanding of the dairy industry and issues relevant to dairying in the region
  • Proven management and/or team leadership with experience and capability leading a remote team
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning
  • Substantial experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, including strong networking and relationship building and management skills
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to provide executive support to the Board and an understanding of the principles of corporate governance, financial literacy and the ability to develop and manage a budget.
