Position summary

Downer Rollingstock Services has an opportunity for a ‘Commercial Manager’, to join our team in VIC – Pakenham on a full-time fixed term basis. [12 months]

Melbourne’s next-generation High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) will be smoother, quieter, more comfortable and carry 20 per cent more passengers per service. As well as designing and manufacturing 65 new trains, the project includes the construction of a new depot and driver training facilities. Through the High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) project, Downer are currently manufacturing trains to go into service on the Melbourne rail network.

The position of the Commercial Manager provides management and oversight for commercial activities within the HCMT Project, reporting into the Manager Passenger Maintenance VIC. These commercial activities include but are not limited to:

Key responsibilities will include:
Administration of multiple contracts inclusive of: Management of delay impacts; Issuing of contract notices and variations; Maintenance of commercial registers and assessing impact of events, including pricing variations and quantifying EOTs; and

Liaising with relevant internal stakeholders (legal, project controls, etc.)

Contractual negotiations and dispute resolution with upstream project client, a JV partner and downstream subcontractors;

Ownership of project scope management plan, and championing the change management processes and tools within, including contract variation claims, extensions of time and design change;

Interface with all project functional leads in the management of the above; and

Providing summaries, reports and updates to the RSS Executive Leadership Team as required

Provide commercial insights around the operations of the business and competitor analysis;

Delivery of accurate financial results and forecasts in line with the deliverables calendar;

About you

Tertiary qualification in a related field (engineering, business, Project Management, etc.)

5+ years managing projects within a construction, services or manufacturing environment, with a focus on commercial/contractual management

Experience working in the Rail industry an advantage

Additional commercial or legal training an advantage

Solid commercial experience with a track record of delivering revenue and cost savings initiatives

Knowledge of rail industry, ideally within a manufacturing, maintenance or asset management environment preferred

Awareness of Warranty Management, Defect Management and New Vehicle Acceptance

Excellent understanding of typical provisions found in large infrastructure contracts Member of a relevant

Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Information analysis and problem-solving skills.

The ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the business

Ability to influence team members and stakeholders across reporting lines and organisational units
