About the Role

As Manager Planning, you will lead the Planning Unit in the Fire and Incident Management Branch. The Manager Planning leads the NPWS unit responsible for the review and development of agency strategy, policy, planning and procedures relevant to fire and incident management.

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience and a high level of expertise in fire and incident management at a state-wide level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the statutory and operational environment for fire and incident management in NSW, and its relationship to natural and cultural heritage management in national parks and other lands.
  • Current Australian Drivers licence, and a willingness to fly in light aircraft.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-agency engagement and collaboration, with NSW Rural Fire Service and key internal partners within DPIE, and supporting the agency representations on national groups, statutory committees, stakeholder groups and working groups regarding fire management on national parks.
  • Establish and maintain bushfire and incident management networks that will inform and guide decision making regarding policy and procedures leading to agency on-ground actions and outcomes.
  • Lead the development, review and engagement on fire and incident planning relevant to NPWS, coordinating information for audits, inquiries (generally), Royal Commissions and coronial inquiries.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the agency fire communication strategy and specific communication methods, mediums, language and channels of delivery.
  • Leads and facilitates NPWS involvement in fire science and acts as a research liaison to bushfire related research centres and AFAC working groups.
  • Lead collaborative and productive relationships relevant to the Unit across other NPWS teams and branches.
  • Provide effective and timely communications to the NPWS Executive on sensitive issues, providing evidence-based arguments and sound rationale solutions.

This role will be required to undertake state coordination incident duties based in Homebush during the fire season.
