About the role
Reporting to the Manager and working closely with the Secretary and executives, the Principal Policy Officer will be responsible for managing high-level policy advice and delivering generational reform to improve responses to sexual assault and sexual offending, within a complex and politically sensitive environment. As Principal Policy Officer working on a priority project, you will be responsible for working effectively as part of a small project team to delivery generational policy reform.

Some of your duties will include:
  • Progress project initiatives and deliverables, including managing collaboration, stakeholder relationships, and ensuring actions and products are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and high-level policy expertise on complex and sensitive issues to a variety of senior stakeholders to ensure advice and projects are undertaken and maintained to high standards.
  • Provide responsive, considered and expert advice and high-level support to the Director, Secretary, Board of Management and Justice ministers.
  • Undertake and develop policy development for system-wide and cross-portfolio issues for the Board of Management and Justice Ministers.
About you

To be successful you will have:
  • Proven experience in developing significant and complex policy initiatives and reforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing leadership, guidance and performing effectively under pressure in a dynamic and politically sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively and actively.
  • An understanding of the justice system, including the issues and pressures to which the department and government must respond.
There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however qualifications in a relevant discipline would be highly desirable.
