General Manager, Legal Services

SHK Asia Pacific - Melbourne, VIC

Source: uWorkin

  • Newly created leadership position
  • Play a critical role in Victoria’s integrity regime
  • Complex and highly sensitive legal scope

About the organisation

The Victorian Inspectorate is the key oversight body in Victoria’s integrity system. The Inspectorate is an independent body, not subject to direction or control by executive government. Its vision is to strengthen public trust in Victoria’s integrity, accountability and investigatory bodies through effective oversight, including monitoring the use of coercive powers.

About the role

Reporting to the Executive Director Legal and Integrity (Cathy Cato) and working with the Inspector (Eamonn Moran PSM QC), the General Manager, Legal Services will lead the Legal Services team to provide expert pragmatic advice on all legal, legal policy issues and risks relating to the exercise of the Inspectorate’s statutory remit, and corporate and governance requirements. This is a new leadership level role that has been created in response to the Inspectorate’s continuing expanding statutory remit and increasing corporate requirements. Given the Inspectorate’s position as the lead body in the Victorian integrity system, the role will often be advising on or directly managing highly sensitive and extremely complex matters requiring the capacity to address matters through first principles and produce robust legal advice to support outputs which can withstand agency, public and parliamentary scrutiny and lead to both agency and systemic improvements.

About you

To succeed in this role you will have demonstrated experience in strategic leadership within government in a regulatory, integrity or law enforcement context, a track record in delivering authoritative and expert legal advice in a complex and sensitive environment and have excellent people and stakeholder management skills.
