About the business

The Mackay Farming Group (MFG) has been operating for 75 years in the Tully region and has expanded to become Australia’s largest and most significant Banana producer with more recent diversification into other crops. About the role
In line with MFG’s growth strategy, the Group is now looking to appoint a BDM to sell fresh and shelf ready tropical produce from its farming operations in North Queensland. Increased market share of value-added products and the identification of new market channels for fresh fruit will ensure the market development is in line with the planned increase in volume produced by the Group. The successful candidate will use his/her previous experiences and key relationships with produce wholesalers and retailers to grow product lines. The incumbent will work closely with the CEO and Director of Business Development to ensure the business growth is in line with the strategic plan objectives and that client expectations are managed.
Skills and attributes
Key skills and attributes being sought are:

  • 10 + years’ experience in a fresh produce sales and/or marketing related position or similar
  • High level written and verbal skills to communicate with key wholesale and retail customers as well as key industry personnel
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a strong team culture
  • Proven relationship building skills with a strong customer focus
  • Be proactive, show initiative and have a “can do” attitude
  • High level negotiation skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Ideally possess tertiary qualifications in an agri related discipline
  • Advanced computer literacy
