The position of Principal Project Officer – Medical Research forms a part of the Medical Research Branch in the Jobs, Innovation & Business Engagement Group. Our group works to build trust-based relationships with Victorian businesses, from global enterprises to small businesses and start-ups, to achieve job outcomes that strengthen our economy.

The Medical Research branch provide leadership and direction on strategy, policy, and program development for the Victorian medical research sector. The Branch provides strategic advice to government, manages its investments in health and medical research and partners with the Victorian health and medical research sector to deliver key priorities through a range of programs and initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager, Office of Health and Medical Research, the Principal Project Officer will lead work to deliver key medical research initiatives that deliver government strategic objectives in health and medical research to support job and economic growth in Victoria. Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Deliver priority projects through the establishment, management and updating of funding agreements, project documents and governance arrangements.
  • Apply strategic thinking to manage KPI, benefit realisation tracking and outcome based contract establishment processes including identifying opportunities to improve procurement outcomes, efficiency and value for money.
  • Problem solving: seeks all relevant information for problem-solving; liaises with stakeholders; analyses issues from different perspectives and draws sound inferences from information available; identifies and proposes workable solutions to problems; implements solutions, evaluates effectiveness and adjusts actions as required.
  • Systems thinking: diagnoses trends, obstacles and opportunities in the internal and external environment; understands the linkages between natural systems and communities to inform policy; conceptualises and defines the systems working within the organisation.
  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with stakeholders, contractors and suppliers including effectively managing contract enquiries, issues, disputes, variations, risks and undertaking negotiations as required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships: with key internal and external stakeholders and provide relevant information and advice about the Branch's direction, focus and policies.
