About The Role

The Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for the technical engineering aspects of the safety work and shall lead, guide, advise and support other Safety Engineers, System Engineers, System Designers, System Testers and similar technical staff in providing the necessary information to put together an argument that the system is correct, complete and fit for purpose in the intended environment. The role is also responsible for following up, guide and advise on the safety and quality management aspects of the project and systems. The role is responsible for producing and contributing with parts of or the complete Safety Case on relevant product or system level (GP / GA / SA). The Sr Safety Engineer shall be capable to argue the conclusion of a safety case to internal or external Safety Validators, Safety Assessors, Authorities and Regulators. The Sr Safety Engineer is expected to be taking initiative, be self-propelling and to drive the work forward individually with the goal to accomplish a positive approval in accordance with the project schedule.

The role requires to actively interact with various stakeholders internally and externally – other engineers, Safety Validators, Safety Assessors, customers, authorities and regulators.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Performing technical analysis of the system to ensure all aspects of technical safety is covered. This typically Risk Analysis based on a System Definition, complete “bow-tie” safety analysis of hazards and their mitigations, THR apportionment, ETA, FTA, FMECA, SIL allocation, safety impact analysis of operational rules.
  • Produce key technical documentation such as Safety Cases, Technical Safety Reports, Safety Management Reports, Hazard Reports, Impact Analyses, SRAC Reports.
  • Perform Safety Reviews of key engineering documents and artefacts such as requirements specifications, architecture specifications, design specifications, test specifications. Participate, contribute, prepare and lead Hazard Workshops for PHA, SHA, SSHA, IHA, OMHA, HHA and other safety related workshops using methods such as HAZOP, SWIFT, etc.
  • Act as a local specialist to the project. Guide, advise and technically lead other System Assurance team members as well as other project members, such as System Engineers, Designers and Testers in the technical safety aspects of the work.

Key Requirements
  • Bachelor or higher in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 7-10 years’ experience in Railway and Railway Signalling systems
  • Safety and System Assurance of railway products, systems or solution or similar field.
  • Previous experience of working in a Safety role is essential
  • Hazard analysis techniques and methodologies
  • Methodologies for Quantified Risk Analysis, typically ETA and FTA
  • Familiar with CENELEC standards (deep experience with EN50126, EN50128, EN50129), Safety and Quality Standards (i.e. IEC/ISO)
  • Knowledge of Signalling Train and Control Systems, BT RCS products, processes preferred.
