The Opportunity

Light Project, a leading distributor of architectural and decorative lighting products in Australia, is on the look-out for a Senior Technical Sales Consultant in Melbourne to successfully build, promote and optimise Light Project’s sales in close partnership with the State Sales Manager, National Sales Manager and Light Project internal team, in line with the strategic objectives of the business. The role requires an expert understanding of design and knowledge of how to apply lighting techniques to architecture, provides technical advice to the Light Project team and takes complete ownership of the project sales process. This includes assisting architects, lighting designers, interior designers and engineers to deliver innovative and creative lighting solutions to commercial, hospitality, retail, education and residential projects.

Skills Required

  • 5+ years of Architectural Lighting Specification sales experience;
  • The hunger and drive to identify new project opportunities and close a sale;
  • The ability to read and understand architectural and electrical documentation;
  • Strong work ethic and mentoring ability to support junior sales team members;
  • Strong knowledge and technical understanding of architectural lighting products;
  • Sound understanding of lighting specification and procurement knowledge;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills;
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills;
  • Netsuite knowledge is ideal but not necessary as training will be provided;
  • Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office;


Role Responsibilities
  • Build, establish and maintain strong client relationships through face-to-face meetings, presentations, roadshows and project specification support ensuring client needs are met and serviced to a high standard;
  • Reach agreed upon individual sales target at expected gross margins;
  • Provide architectural lighting application and technical support, problem solving and advice, as required from design stages through to construction support and commission as required;
  • Owns relationship with named key accounts as agreed with Sales Manager;
  • Develop new account opportunities through networking and cold calling end users, architects, lighting designers, engineers and interior designers;
  • Understand all key stakeholder touch points and pro-actively work to improve customer engagement;
  • To pro-actively be educated and understand all Light Project brands and product range;
  • Strong communication skills to confidently explain complex product solutions and unique value proposition;
  • Manage the process of specification through to order with strong communication with all key stakeholders (wholesalers, contractors and builders) ensuring that all relevant information is entered into Netsuite;
  • Take ownership of project rectifications in line with company procedures;
  • Attend industry events to build Light Project’s presence and market awareness;
  • Work in a collaborative and supportive team environment whilst managing individual target.
