  • Part Time (0.6 FTE) / Term Contract (up to 4 March 2022) The Drugs of Dependence Unit is responsible for administering certain parts of the Controlled Substances legislation in South Australia to ensure the safe delivery of authorised treatment with drugs of dependence. In this role, you will exercise delegated powers under the Controlled Substances Act 1984 (SA) to minimise the incidence of, and harms associated with drug dependence, misuse, and diversion. This will involve considering applications from medical and nurse practitioners to prescribe drugs of dependence for patients in accordance with Unit policy. You will provide information to health practitioners about their legal obligations when prescribing or supplying drugs of dependence, including if a person has been identified as drug dependent, or is treated with or seeking medicines subject to misuse. You will also assist to investigate suspected breaches of the Controlled Substances Act 1984 (SA) and Controlled Substances (Poisons) Regulations 2011 (SA), including irresponsible handling, prescribing and dispensing of prescription drugs by health professionals and other people with access to these medicines.You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy, giving eligibility for registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia. This will be supported by your experience in the practical application of knowledge in an area related to drug dependence treatment services. Capable of high level problem solving, you must be able to think on your feet and create solutions that achieve desired public health outcomes. A self-starter and dynamic thinker who works well within a small team, you will be capable of completing work to a high standard with minimal supervision.
