Position details
The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Cast Technician (515739) vacancy.
Salary
$71,912 to $82,898 pro-rata per annum

Period of Employment
Permanent part-time day work, working 8.36 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Duties
In accordance with medical practitioner instructions, policies, procedures, standards and practices, the Cast Technician assists to provide a cast service that ensures optimum care to Tasmanian Health Service-South patients.
This will include, under the medical practitioner’s direct or indirect supervision, and working with the Senior Cast Technician, work to
- Prepare, apply, remove and modify casts and perform complex technical work including the positioning of fractured limbs and removal of external fixtures.
- Undertake simple wound care including the removal of dressings, sutures, staples and the replacement of dressing materials.
- Provide education to the patient and family on the proper care and use of casts
- Accurately document interventions and collect activity data
- Ensure standard precautions and maintain the cleanliness and security of the Cast Room
- Liaise effectively with other members of the health care team.
Essential Requirements
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
Desirable Requirements
- Certificate IV in Cast Technology, or equivalent.
- Minimum two years’ cast technician experience.
Applicants should note that, for a period of six months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
