The Native Title Operations team within Infrastructure Management and Delivery Division is seeking a high performing Principal Advisor (Native Title) to provide authoritative specialist advice and consultancy on Native Title legislative and policy obligations, as well as operational and strategic support for Native Title Operations team in their delivery on Native Title advice and services to the department.

In the role of Principal Advisor (Native Title) you will support departmental projects through provision of authoritative, professional and timely advice regarding the interpretation of relevant Native Title legislation, policy and procedures. 

You will manage the Native Title Operations team in their delivery of Native Title services including the provision of Native Title Assessments and co-ordination of departmental responses to Native Title Claims. 

Accountabilities include:

• Provide authoritative advice and consultancy on tenure history searching related to Native Title matters.

• Undertake complex research and prepare briefs, correspondence, and submissions of a substantial nature relating to native title issues, policies and procedures and supervise others assisting in this process.

• Represent the department as TMR's “Native Title Contact Officer” in dealings with Department of Resources (Native Title lead agency), other government departments and industry bodies.

• Provide systems manager role for the departments native title databases and GIS systems.

• Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of the following legislation:

o Commonwealth Native Title Act (1993)

o Native Title (Queensland) Act (1993)

o Transport Infrastructure Act (1994)

• Monitor changes to the Native Title legislation and assist in the development of policy and procedures related to the legislation. 

• Develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures relevant to native title matters; and participate in departmental, interdepartmental and specialist committees and other forums.

• Develop and deliver training on native title processes and compliance obligations that contributes to the raising of the department's awareness and its internal native title capability.
