Communications and Engagement Advisor

  • Annual Salary Range: VPS4: $87,640 - $99,438 + Superannuation
  • Tenure: Fixed Term, 18 Months
  • Employment Type: Full Time

About the Team

Our team supports the Department of Transport to deliver on the Government's transport agenda, to get people home sooner and safer and to efficiently move more goods in Victoria's thriving economy. We do this through clear communications, genuine engagement and marketing campaigns.

Due to significant growth and the need for further support as we reach a COVID-normal for Victoria, we are looking for a Communications and Engagement Advisor in our team. This role will be accountable for supporting the development and delivery of Stakeholder Communications and Engagement plans according to the requirements for the Metropolitan and Suburban portfolio. They will utilise their verbal and written communication skills to guide and shape conversations to support DoT's work in Greater Melbourne.

This advert is for a Communications and Engagement Advisor in our Metro and Suburban team. However, we have a number of vacancies available and will consider applicants for additional roles within the Strategic Communications division.

About the Opportunity

  • Ensuring Projects in the advisor's portfolio are effectively supported by the development and implementation of strategic communications and engagement plans
  • Understanding and supporting Departmental projects and programs which are generated through strong relationships developed with affected communities and stakeholders
  • Making sure the Communications and Engagement plans are supported by well written and appropriately selected collateral, such as letters, postcards and other public materials.
  • Dealing with Stakeholder and community enquiries, feedback and issues
  • Ensuring Communications and reputational risks and issues are proactively identified and mitigated
  • Work with the online engagement subject matter expert to use this platform to communicate with stakeholders and gather their input
  • Work collaboratively across the Strategic Communications and Engagement division for coordinated, consistent approaches to the work of DoT, particularly through partnerships in Marketing
  • Prepare reports and briefs for consideration by key stakeholders on critical issues and updates

About You

  • Must have experience in communications, stakeholder relations or community engagement with an ability to prepare and implement plans in these areas
  • Have the ability to identify reputational and communications issues and risks as they emerge and escalate to management
  • Possess the ability to successfully manage competing priorities and project tasks to ensure project milestones are achieved/deadlines met
  • Have well-developed written skills, especially in writing/presenting information that will be subject to public scrutiny
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with project partners and senior advisors to achieve communications goals/objectives
  • Demonstrate initiative with proven ability to work as part of a team, proactively contributing to and providing support
