• Location: Melbourne, CBD Exciting opportunity to lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for addressing complex fire and forest management challenges.

The Manager Forest and Fire Risk Assessment plays a critical role in bushfire management in Victoria, at the cutting edge of science and modelling to inform policy development and operational decisions. Leading a multi-disciplinary team, you will continue to evolve the state's risk-based approach to bushfire management and understanding of risks to forest ecosystems.

As an agile thinker who embraces technology, you will assist your team to develop and build innovative applications and decision support tools to manage bushfire risk in Victoria. You are someone who grasps technical knowledge easily and is able to translate complex information for a variety of audiences, ensuring you are effective in providing advice to support policy and operational decisions. Whilst a knowledge of Victoria's bushfire and forest management policies is desirable, experience providing advice and working on models or decision support tools relating to natural environment scenarios is equally welcomed.

You are a people person, with experience building a positive team culture and a track record of developing enduring, collaborative relationships internally and externally to your organisation. As a leader, you manage effectively and develop the skills of your staff so they can achieve their day to day work, as well as their professional goals.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in natural resource management, environmental science, computer science is desirable.
  • Experience leading teams to develop technology and computer modelling approaches is desirable.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of modern fire management principles and best practice methodologies is desirable.
