The role
The Preservation Caseworker role sits within the Foster Care division of Challenge Community Services and reports directly to the Regional Manager. The Caseworker is responsible for providing case management and support to achieve outcomes for families with children and young people who are at risk of entering Out of Home Care (OOHC).
This position will provide intensive support services to vulnerable children, young people and their families in order to identify and/or reduce risks, allowing families to maintain the care of their child/children and/or to support families to have their child/children restored to their care. The position will work with and support families in order to prevent children and young people staying in or entering statutory OOHC by working directly with families to plan and implement strategies to build their parenting capacity and provide safe and nurturing environments free from risk of harm.
This position requires a high level of analytical and negotiation skills, the ability to produce high quality work within strict deadlines and work under pressure whilst being able to make evidence based decisions in relation to the best interests of vulnerable children and young people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. This role may at times require work outside of normal business hours.
About you
We are looking for an empowering and dynamic Case Worker to join our Foster Care Team in Narrabri. You will be passionate and demonstrate a strong desire to support and advance the lives of young adults and children in out of home and Foster Care.
Essential Selection Criteria
- Diploma level qualification within a relevant human services field.
- Experience in case management in a Human Services field such as; Family Support, Out of Home Care, Disabilities, Aged Care or Nursing.
- Satisfactory criminal record and working with children's check.
- Unencumbered driver's licence, vehicle registration, third party insurance.
- Highly developed analytical case work skills, including well developed and effective mediation, interpersonal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to apply these across a culturally diverse caseload.
- Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously in developing and managing detailed, effective case plans for multiple children and young people simultaneously. This will include high level organisational and time management skills as well as capacity to recognise work priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable to changing circumstances and organisational requirements, and contribute to the needs of a rapidly expanding organisation.
- Excellent computer literacy skills in MS Office suite.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Empathy and commitment to improve the quality of life for children and young people.
- Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision.
- First Aid or willingness to obtain.
- NDIS Workers Screening Check
Desirable Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care and the Family and Community Services Permanency Support Program.
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and training in family preservation and restoration.
- Experience in Homebuilders USA, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention - Families, North Carolina Family Assessment Scales and Partnering for Safety Frameworks.
