Technology Analyst - Energy

Location: Perth

This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground level of a rapidly expanding, dynamic, global green energy business. Fortescue Future Industries is currently undertaking a rapid expansion and are seeking applications for a Technology Analyst – Energy to work underneath our Chief Scientist and assist in the identification and assessment of energy technologies to enable Fortescue's corporate energy strategy.


Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Modelling of energy and various energy-intensive processing systems, i.e., ammonia, and hydrogen generation, and steelmaking, among others.
  • Identification of existing and emerging technologies and evaluation of suitability to apply those technologies in Fortescue operations.
  • Review of scientific articles and patents in order to identify early stage opportunities.
  • Technical market analysis and technology comparison.
  • Drafting technical and techno-economic memos and position papers and technology roadmaps.
  • Engagement with OEMs and technology developers.
  • Updating technology register.
  • Provide support to FFI’s international projects and manufacturing effort.

In order to be successful in this role:

Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone

This would suit a multiskilled individual with an excellent understanding of existing and emerging technologies across mining, energy, and mineral processing technologies. Or alternatively a recent PhD graduate with industrial mindset.

  • PhD in Mechanical, Materials or Chemical Engineering is desired;
  • Understanding of how to create and interpret techno/economic modelling
  • Familiarity with mining, energy, and mineral processing technologies;
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical writing skills.
