JOB DESCRIPTION

The Shire of Carnarvon has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Gallery Officer to join the Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery in a permanent part-time position. We are seeking a self-motivated, positive team member who is committed to further enhancing the gallery’s profile, including sourcing exhibitions and continuing to develop relationships and support for local and regional artists.

The primary function of this position is to support the day-to-day operations of the gallery, including all administration and the provision of excellent customer service to all stakeholders.

Applicants should have well-developed communication skills, advanced computer and organisational skills, and the capacity to engage with a range of audiences and stakeholders.

This position would suit someone who enjoys variety and challenges, someone who is flexible, and, overall, someone who is keen to make a real contribution in a small, diverse regional community.

Reporting to the Coordinator – Library and Gallery, the key areas of responsibility for this role are:
  • To provide a high level of customer service to all stakeholders, including artists, community members, visitors and the extended arts community
  • To provide professional and skilled gallery administrative support, including overseeing exhibition planning, associated documentation and marketing/promotional materials
  • To carry out exhibition installation/curation, applying best practice when handling incoming artwork/exhibits according to loan agreement conditions.
  • To ensure conservation of artwork/artefacts/documents in storage applying standards of best practice.
  • To provide support for essential core business operations, including library relief duties.
A cash component between $54,399.28 and up to $56,671.68p/a (pro-rata excl. of superannuation) will be offered to the successful candidate dependent on their qualifications and experience, together with additional benefits including;
  • 5 weeks annual leave per annum (pro-rata)
  • 48 hour fortnight (hours dependent on organisational requirement)
  • District Allowance as per Council Policy
  • Housing Subsidy as per Council Policy
