This is a hands on role with operational responsibility for the running of the manufacturing team and the delivery of first-rate finish product to the customer in line with agreed service and quality standards. Additionally you will be involved in maximising the eficiencies of manufacturing though effective work-in-progress controls and labour utilisation thus ensuring output, quality, service, budget and safety targets.

  • Achievement of service level standards
  • Implementation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures
  • People-care management - labour utilisation / mentor and coach to supervisors and employees, including training of employees
  • Financial management within predetermined budget limits
  • Management of worksite OH&S standards and procedures
  • Responsibilities encompass: production control (the sequencing of jobs, updating time schedules, etc); stock control; quality control; health and safety issues; and the maintenance of production equipment
  • Managing the business function to maximise through-puts and minimise shortfalls associated with wastage
  • Ensuring KPI's and budgets are monitored and achieved while ensuring that all staff are working within a safe and controlled environment
  • Safety reviews and day to day production management
  • Contributing to the decision of equipment selection for capital expenditure


  • Engineering or production management qualification
  • Ideally you will have optical trade qualifications
  • Post-graduate qualification in ophthalmic(s) would be highly regarded
  • Experience operating continuous flow manufacturing facilities
  • Proven abilities within production planning, scheduling and management of outcomes using KPI's
  • Significant people and communication skills
  • A high work ethic
  • 8 years+ of managing process operations in a manufacturing industry
  • Excellent people leadership skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish operational priorities, schedule activities and resources to ensure optimum use of time and resources
