Employee Relations Manager
MMC are currently seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join the team based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Reporting to the Head of Employee Relations based in New York, this position is for a recognized subject matter expert in Employee Relations who is also able to manage large projects and processes and write a variety of policies, guides, templates and other documents.
As the Employee Relations Manager, you will provide expertise on all types of employee relations issues to ensure uniformity in the treatment of colleagues, to reduce litigation, reputational and financial costs, and to balance the interests of the manager, the colleague and the business.
What can you expect?
Counsel HR colleagues in all business units on a wide range of employee relations issues including progressive counselling, performance management, company policies and procedures, background checks, and legal requirements
Ensures compliance with new employment-related law & regulations; writes and updates employee handbooks and other templates (e.g., offer letter, bonuses) for all businesses in each country
Acts as subject matter expert on industrial instruments that underpin the employment of colleagues across different legal entities including Banking Finance and Insurance Award 2020, specific Enterprise Agreements in place
Develops and maintains templates for each country for use by HR community including employment application, offer letters, bonuses, flexible working, tuition assistance, redundancy documents, etc.

We will count on you to:
Investigate or oversee investigation of employee complaints of alleged discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation under the various employment laws
Identify employment law changes, modify policies to address change and works with HR community to implement required changes
Writes and maintains employee handbooks and policies for each legal employing entity for Australia and New Zealand
Assist with global projects and creation of global HR guidance materials (e.g., Global HR Advice on Redundancies)
Creates and conducts Employee Relations training for managers both in person and in self-service modules
Arranges HR training sessions for local and global HR audiences including determining topics, and either writing and presenting the session or arranging for an expert instructor
Act as the MMC representative in all matters raised before the Fair Work Commission and other regulatory bodies, conciliating/arbitrating matters either directly or in partnership with external legal counsel
What makes you stand out?
BS or BA law degree (desirable)
10+ years of Employee Relations experience, including complex investigations and issue resolution
Experience conducting internal training on ER related topics
In depth knowledge of local employment and workplace laws
Skilled in interpreting and applying employment laws and regulations
Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
Strategic media, regulator and brand management experience
Strong editing skills
Excellent Microsoft Office package skills
Occasional travel is a requirement of this role.
