About the Opportunity


The Team Lead, Student Engagement plays a critical role within the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience, Experience Pillar, Student Life theme in leading staff and University-wide initiatives that provide inclusive extra-curricular programs that deliver a world class student experience outside the classroom.

This role will lead staff and play a key role in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based and systematic development and engagement opportunities and onboarding and transition support enabling the wholistic development of the UNSW student. This role is expected to work collaboratively with the other Team Leads within Student Life and across the Experience Pillar as well as the portfolio and with Faculties and Divisions.

About the Successful Candidate

To apply for this position you must have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or an equivalent combination of relevant skills, experience and education. A thorough understanding of issues facing tertiary education students of a variety of equity backgrounds a distinct advantage.
  • Significant leadership and team management skills and experience with demonstrated success in motivating, managing, coaching, and developing staff, and in fostering teamwork and to effectively diffuse potential areas of dispute and/or conflict.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing large-scale tertiary level student engagement and development activities focussed on creating a sense of belonging and contributing to the overall excellent student experience for students.
  • Demonstrated operational management skills and experience including strategic planning, budget management, planning, priority setting, and staff management, as well as excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Proven ability and record of successfully:
    • applying judgement, creativity, and flexibility to solve complex problems, including by generating new and innovative ideas and approaches; and
    • gaining consensus and commitment from others and identifying and effectively diffuse potential areas of dispute and/or conflict.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a customer service focus and the demonstrated ability to build effective internal and external working relationships and influence, persuade, negotiate, and liaise at all levels across an organisation to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Experience at a senior level in managing quality assurance and in developing, delivering and continually improving programs, processes and systems, including project management and change management processes.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
