Our impressive collection includes records of immigration and shipping, criminal trials and prisons, premiers and governors, royal commissions, boards of inquiry, wills and probates and much more. These records hold stories of the key events and decisions that have shaped the history of the State of Victoria.

Established under the Public Records Act 1973 our objectives are to:
- issue and advise on standards regulating the creation, maintenance and security of public records
- preserve public records of permanent value

About the role
The Standards and Policy Officer contributes to the development of government records management standards, policies, guidelines and tools by conducting research, analysing information, developing content and undertaking administrative tasks. This role contributes to a range of projects and initiatives designed to improve records management across the Victorian public sector. Tasks include analysing reports and data, preparing communications and educational content, editing and formatting documents, collating and summarising information and assisting with events and meetings.

The Standards and Policy Officer works within a small team but will need to collaborate with staff across the organisation and to communicate with external stakeholders. This role requires attention to detail, flexibility, initiative, the ability to multi-task and to work within a changing and resource-constrained environment. It does not require records management experience or expertise but an interest in records, information and/or data management would be advantageous.

Given current working arrangements, this role is likely to involve a mix of working at the office in North Melbourne and from home. This will require flexibility, self-motivation and the ability to work with limited assistance and supervision.
