To ensure the successful operational delivery of the ninth edition of this competition, we have set up a local events team. Its aim is to improve the experience of over 1.1 billion people watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, by delivering innovative solutions across all operational areas.

Head of Corporate Communications - Australia

Job responsibilities

As the Head of Corporate Communications, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for the successful creation and implementation of the communications strategy for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, delivering a set of communications services that focus on proactive messaging and storytelling across both traditional and digital media platforms.

The Head of Corporate Communications will work closely with FIFA Zürich Communications and Media Relations to understand their activities, serving the strengthen the perception of these activities by setting agendas and developing narratives to target audiences in a meaningful and consistent way. As a leader, you should be able to harness your team’s motivation and channel it towards staging a highly successful FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

You will work in close collaboration with Functional Area experts based in FIFA HQ in Zurich to ensure that the Communications projects of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM are successfully planned and implemented.

J ob duties

Your role as Head of Corporate Communications includes the following responsibilities:

  • Together with FIFA Zürich, key stakeholders and partners, plan and implement the successful delivery of an engaging and compelling communications and media strategy that positively promotes and profiles the tournament, as well as FIFA’s commitment to the legacy and development of women’s football
  • Showcase and promote the tournament with key local, national, regional and (where relevant) international media, collaborating with relevant operational team members, stakeholders and senior project management
  • Plan and develop effective and compelling content strategies, including video and text, for use by media, stakeholders and on multiple FIFA Channels
  • Contribute to the distribution of factual information on FIFA’s policies to relevant stakeholders and improvide knowledge on FIFA’s competence, role and initiatives, seeking for potential synergies and common positions with other sports organisations
  • Continually review and make recommendations to improve the communication around the tournament, overseeing and coordinating the overall Communications project plan to ensure the alignment of requirements
  • Operate in a proactive media relations mode to communicate on various topics relevant to the tournament and FIFA corporate events and messages, with such media relations including updated distribution/influencer lists that show an in-depth expertise of that topic
  • In coordination with FIFA Communications responsible, manage all local media requests in Australia, assessing how such replies could also be published on owned and operated FIFA channels
  • Identify and plan outreach to key opinion leaders (journalists, influencers, Legends and FIFA representative) in Australia who can support the communication of these activities
  • Identification of key tournament and FIFA stakeholders within all relevant governmental, non-governmental and football institutions in Australia to create a network of people who can advocate FIFA’s position in all sport and FIFA-related matters
  • Maintain positive working relationships with communications counterparts of key tournament stakeholders in Australia, including Host Cities, local, regional and national government and local/regional associations and other football institutions in host countries.
  • As a key member of the management team, work collaboratively with colleagues across Australia, in New Zealand and Zürich as defined by the operational organizational structure

Qualifications & experience

You should have 7 years’ proven experience working in international sports and/or media organizations, with specific background in football and/or sports journalism. You will have experience and knowledge of the local culture and excellent communication abilities. As a leader, it is important that you have the ability to manage and lead a team of multi-disciplined individuals, and foster team-spirit.


This position requires a person with the ability to work well and deliver under pressure by applying problem-solving skills. As a leader, it is important that you have the ability to work in a team environment and lead those around you, taking an inclusive approach and motivating others towards a common purpose. You must be able to delegate tasks appropriately while being transparent and assuming accountability for any decisions taken on your watch. A high degree of innovation, passion and vision is essential, and you will be able to hire, develop, coach, appraise and attain highly qualified personnel according to the organisational structure of the local events team. The demands of the job mean you must be highly resilient and organised, as well as able to manage conflict and communicate clearly.
